After reading the author in the NY Times, we got the book for our kindles. There was a lot of good information in this book, but I did have a few concerns after reading it. One is that Dr. Pedre seems to feel the happy gut is the end-all be-all. It reminded me of the old Chiropractic days, when aligning the spine was promoted as the magic cure for world peace and all that ails you. I'm confident that there is a lot of truth in what Dr. Pedre says, but anytime I see something put down in such absolutes, it brings out the skeptic in me. As well, the constant references to the Happy Gut on-line store made me think of the great line, "show me the money," which just once again brought out the skeptic in me. That said, the I do believe that the basic premise of the book is right on target, and I believe Dr. Pedre makes good arguments as to why the modern diet is failing us. I have not yet tried the 28 day purge, but I know two people who have done similar purges, with mixed results. One found no real noticeable change in health, but the other lost some weight and found a big improvements in her joints.

This person is not a gastroenterologist, so has no right to call himself a “gut doctor.”What he’s peddling is the low FODMAPS diet for IBS, which he has renamed. You can get thr Stanford low FODMAPS hand out for free online. It’s been validated in studies done by actual gastroenterologists, and is a lot less reading.“Leaky gut” and “intestinal Candida” are not recognised by the medical community. You don’t need to spend money on his bogus supplements.

I was never overweight (in fact I’ve always been very lean), athletic training, no junk food – but had severe digestive issues for 6 years and developed an autoimmune condition for the last 2 of those years. I live in New York City, had access to great doctors, but all the “traditional” doctors, as well meaning as they were, determined that it was stress. A friend of mine who is in the nutrition field suggested that it might be the food I was eating - but I protested because I ate “healthy” - whole wheat pasta and bread, salads for takeout with low fat everything – Ha! I saw Dr. Pedre on Good Morning America and was curious so I purchased the book which advocates a Paleo type diet – no wheat, grains, lots of healthy fats, grass fed beef, organic as much as possible and absolutely no processed foods. In 4 weeks my digestive issues disappeared by about 90% and my autoimmune condition improved by about 40%. As a result of reading the book, I decided to see Dr. Pedre and do further testing. The results were clear – Candida overgrowth. I have now been on an antifungal, probiotic and enzyme prescribed by Dr. Pedre – all very inexpensive – and yes, you can get the supplements anywhere, not just from his website. (FYI - The reason that I do use his website is because the products are guaranteed fresh. Too many times I have purchased through various online sites and have had issues with freshness for supplements.) My autoimmune condition is about 80% better and digestive issues are just about completely gone. We are aiming for full autoimmune remission. All this started from reading the book – believe me – it’s real.Yes – it is more expensive to buy organic food and grass fed beef, but it was more expensive for me to take the medications I was given along with all the doctors visits and tests that I had gone through for 6 years – and it didn’t make me feel any better. Our processed food chain is poisoning people. And no – it’s not hard to follow the diet in the book. First of all it’s not a diet because I eat a lot – rather it’s getting back to nutrient dense, healthy food. I am a partner in a business and work many hours but you make time to cook properly and pick the quicker meals – how long does it take to broil an organic chicken breast (with the skin) and defrost organic vegetables and make a sweet potato. Nuts and fruit for snacks – not a big deal in terms of time.I would strongly suggest that you read the book – it can change your life. Functional medicine is where the future is. It isn’t voodoo, but good science from a medical doctor associated with one of the best hospitals in New York City who understands that we are what we eat.

Don't question - just DO IT! This book lays it out fairly well but the RESULTS are Absolutely AMAZING!I am 69 years old... took a Nanny job and was sick continually (children bringing home colds and stomach flu etc)...first read it on Kindle (recommend Paperback)...I realized - I can DO this and not some weird stuff! Not only are my gut issues gone (my weak area of health) but DANG I lost 15 lbs without trying...in first 30 days, mostly off my belly...now my husband is on the regime and doing fabulously - inches flying off his belly and that is a first!We have lots of energy and hunger doesn't hit until about 1:00 - 2:00 pm... easy to follow. ALL the smoothies are winners! The regular recipes are too... not one complaint. We are happily continuing living this simple way. Need to say I did not use the nutrients etc offered on line by Dr. Pedre. Chose to buy on Amazon or local health food stores. I hope you'll try this!

Do not order this for your Kindle. The charts and lists are unreadable. I em'd the company asking if they could just em me the suggested meal guide and got no response. Wasted money

Seriously life changing. I have had food reactions and gut issues most of my life, but I didn't realize the root of them and the havoc they were causing me until I read this book. Every other paragraph, I was constantly saying,"Yes, that's me!" Not only is it chock full of research-based information (that's a biggie for me), it is user friendly and so doable for even the busiest people (again important, my work schedule is nuts!).I started Dr. Pedre's Happy Gut program on July 31st, and by Aug 31st, I had lost 12 lbs and gone down 2 clothing sizes. But that wasn't the best part, after 30 days on this program, I got my life back. I was once again the person I knew I could be; clear thinking, energetic, balanced, ache-free...and best of all, back in control of who I am. I seriously cannot say enough about this book and program. It works. Period. In fact it worked so well, I've continued on with it (well over 2 months now) and, at 50 years old, I have NEVER felt better, mind and body, in my entire life.
