This is a great story for adults and teenagers. There is a lot to learn about horses and families. Astrid is 15 years old and doesn't like the strict rules her overbearing father sets for her. She's grounded for the entire summer having to put her archery talents on hold. She'll have to take a menial job of cleaning horse stalls. That's when a little horse called Quary bonds with Astrid and changes her heart and soul. Lovely story which embraced me from page one. You'll love it, too.

Some may say this book was a bit like a riding lesson and it really was. Lots of tips on conscientious riding Astrid was too timid to stand up to anyone. Caring for the horses gave her a new purpose. But the girl has a long way to go. Even at the end of this book. The selfishness and cruelty of Claudia’s son made me sick. And I know there are horse owners like that. Let’s just hope there aren’t too many.

God horse book win unusual circumstances and conflicts, a lot of the book feels very realistic, with the exception of very rapid development of horses and riders- I liked it though.

This was a fun book to read. There are some parts that make you think. If you ride, you will find this book a little upsetting. Just know, the right thing is done at the end.

I loved this book! It was one that you go through fast! Waiting to see what happens next! I would definitely recommend this book to any horse loving teen!

She writes a good book and gift for 11 - 26 would work

Cute horse book, entertaining for a relaxing read.

Genevieve is a genius, to bring a 15 yr old through the trials she endures in not an easy task. Having lived in a "Co-Dependent" family, based around two Narcissistic step-fathers, from 4 to 20 yrs old, I can relate to Astrid's behavior and choices. Unless someone has been there, it is hard to understand and easy to criticize. I feel Genevieve McKay has done an outstanding job of putting it into this novel. She blends peer pressure, fear of strong personalities, parental abuse into a spell binding, page turning, suspenseful work of art! A low self esteem could be the answer to the mystery of addictive behavior. And it is a vicious circle/cycle which reinforces it'self.Adding to that an amazing understanding of an athlete's mental vision, the conflicts of a craftsmen vs a natural talent. (my riding was the craftsman), while I was never resentful of the talent's of others, I certainly knew people who were. Taking this to two different sports is also quite an accomplishment!Totally admirable work of fiction, something anyone, horse or archery fan, teenager, general population could get much from this book.
